Heswall Project - Bathroom

The Challenge

The shower was positioned discreetly around a corner, requiring a substantial step up and framed by a lowered ceiling. The result was a space that felt confined, with poor ventilation and limited natural light due to walls added by previous owners. Despite the overall size and potential of the room, its atmosphere was heavy and unwelcoming. We recognised that by removing certain partitions and reconfiguring the layout, the area could be transformed into a bright, open, and truly impressive space.

The Solution

We anticipated this would be a substantial undertaking, and it proved to be exactly that. The stud walls, which had obstructed natural light from the window, were removed to allow daylight to permeate the space. The room was fully stripped back, with external walls insulated to improve energy efficiency and retain warmth. By squaring off the layout, we were able to incorporate a generous storage area on the opposite side, providing an ideal location for the new boiler system. Additional space was created for a fully automated Velux window, seamlessly integrated into the roofline to maximize natural illumination. The existing window was also upgraded to a sleek aluminium frame, further enhancing both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

A spacious walk-in shower was designed to provide effortless access and a welcoming atmosphere. Discreetly integrated ceiling extraction ensures effective ventilation, while expansive glass panels framed with coordinating brass hardware complement the dual shower system. The bath was repositioned beneath the Velux window, offering the client a serene setting to unwind in comfort at the end of the day.

The use of large-format tiles introduced a warm, inviting ambience to the room, complemented by the sophisticated richness of the brassware.

Purpose-built niches were incorporated into the walls, introducing ambient mood lighting and practical storage solutions. A deep green Burlington unit, complete with solid surface and integrated sink, was strategically relocated to accommodate a larger mirror. Its elegant curves soften the overall aesthetic, adding a refined sense of luxury to this exceptional room.
